The CUDU

The UNESCO Chair in Higher Education Management (CUDU) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is a permanent centre for analysis, reflection and advice on university governance, management and policy, with preferential attention to engineering and technology universities. Created in 1998 through an agreement between the UPC and UNESCO, it is a pioneer in strategic dialogue between universities, institutional leaders and social and economic agents to promote innovation, quality and social engagement in the leadership and management of higher education institutions. 

Mission

To generate and disseminate knowledge that anticipates and addresses the challenges of higher education and improves the management, governance and impact of universities, especially in Spain and Latin America, as drivers of socioeconomic development and innovation.

Vision

To become an international benchmark in university management and governance capable of influencing the academic, institutional and public debate on the future of higher education, and contributing to more open, responsible, innovative and socially enagaged universities.

Lines of action

• Training in university management. Tools and skills to address present and future challenges of the university system.
• Knowledge generation. Applied research on governance, higher education policies and university positioning.
• Strategic advice. Support for reflection, assessment and institutional planning processes.
• Networks and alliances. Participation in national and international structures to exchange knowledge and strengthen the impact of the Chair.
• Communication and outreach. Institutional visibility, dissemination of knowledge and participation in the debate on higher education.

Who we are

The CUDU UPC has an interdisciplinary team of teaching staff, research staff and technical support and management staff of the University, a combination of knowledge and engagement that makes it possible to promote projects with academic, institutional and social impact, aligned with UNESCO's international priorities.
